The Very Impressive Ford Taurus SHO

by fastcars on 2009/08/24

The Ford Taurus SHO is a huge car. SHO aficionados are often caught commenting on its size. Not much smaller than a light SUV, the SHO maintains the look and feel of a sport sedan in spite of its great size. A little different from a standard Taurus thanks to the interior and muscular exterior.

Exterior Design and Cabin Features

The SHO feature HID headlamps surrounded by lamp bezels finished in nickel, which distinguish it from the standard Taurus. The rear decklid spoiler sits above duel exhaust pipes and 19-inch aluminum wheels. The sleek curves of the vehicle offer aesthetics and aerodynamics. On the outside, the SHO is a sleek, stylish 4-door sedan, but not much different in appearance than the standard model.

Sitting inside the SHO, you will instantly notice the luxury design elements throughout the car. The canted center stack and aluminum trim and pedals give it a stylish look. Ambient lighting is adjustable to personal tastes for the interior. It is equipped with Ford's newest SYNC hands-free communication and entertainment system. A navigation system can be added for $1995. Bmw Price List

Handling and Performance

The SHO has an all-electric power assist in the steering mechanism, and drivers will instantly notice the difference as the car adjusts well to steering movements. The car has a European feel with its large anti-roll bars and stiffer springs, which makes cornering flat while still safe. It can come out of a turn comfortably and under control with the full-time all-wheel drive, which is a standard option in the SHO.

The car's twin-turbo Ecoboost V-6 performs like a V-8. The powerful engine remains calm when asked to perform normal acceleration tasks, but when you push it, the power is there. At 5500 rpm it gives 365 bhp when asked. Top torque is 350 lb.-ft. Acceleration (to 60 mph) is reached in an impressive 5.2 seconds. used cars for sale. However, it has a top speed of just 133 mph, which is 10 mph lower than the first SHO allowed. One the cons, no manual is available, on the plus there is a paddle shift option.

In spite of the engine's power, it is pretty quiet. It also creates little vibration, even when running at top speeds. Ford is touting the engine as a fuel-efficient option for those interested in a sports sedan, but the proof is not quite there. Because of the engine's power and the car's weight, EPA mileage is just 17 mpg in the city, 25 mpg on the highway. Not the best of fuel economies yet still okay.

The brakes leave something to be desired in this car. All it takes the breakes are 174 feet to stop this car from 70 mph. Larger brakes where critical due to the near 2 top car weight. used car online
